Voodoo Bong Title

Picture of the Voodoo Bong

Welcome to the Voodoo Bong's web-site. The Voodoo Bong is a bong so smooth it deserves its own shrine here in cyberspace.

The common or garden spliff is in my opinion a harsh tasting thing, that wastes ganja, burns your throat, and gets you hooked on baccy. The bong is an answer to all these things. The water in a bong cools ganja smoke, and removes many cancer causing chemicals from it. More than that, it is an accessory, to be decorated and displayed with pride, part of your identity. And maybe good enough to deserve a shrine like this.

Homemade bongs can be sophisticated things, engineered on lathes, that will last years; or they can be quickly hashed together things that will last only one smoking session. Find here a guide to building something imbetween the two, much like the Voodoo Bong.

You will need these materials:

And these tools:

The soldering iron is not essential, you can use a nail and kitchen hob or something similar. The hot glue gun *is* essential however.

First, drink the water or whatever you've got in the 500ml bottle. Keep the screw cap.

Use the soldering iron to burn a hole in the bottle, 1-2 inches from the bottom. Be conservative. Take the innards out of your biro till you have just the plastic case and insert the pen point-first into the hole. Keep expanding the hole till the pen just fits in.

The pen should not be perpendicular to the bottle face, it should be pointing towards the bottom, try to get the angle as steep as possible.

So your pen-case fits in the hole, and youre holding it so its pointing 45 degrees up. Get some sellotape and hold the pipe in that position; you should pull the exposed section of the pipe towards the body with the tape, and use enough tape for one or two circles around the pipe and body. Dont get any tape at the joint with the body or at the end of the pen.

Now, liberally apply hot-glue to the pipe-body joint. Get an airtight seal.

Test the seal - take off the screw-cap and suck the mouth of the bottle. Put your finger over the end of the pipe and make sure that no air is getting in.

Now - the end of your pipe is cut at the wrong angle - we want it flat. So with a soldering iron, or a hot knife, or a junior hacksaw, cut the end of the pipe so that when you sit the bong on the table its flat. You should have removed a wedge shaped piece of plastic.

To make a simple bowl, punch a hole (smaller than the end of the pipe) in the center of the card. Place the card on the pipe-end so the holes line up. Hot glue this joint from underneath. Again, make sure its airtight. Now you have something looking like a waiter with a tray (except the arm starts from quite far down).

Nearly finished. Put the aluminium foil on a pad of scrap paper and use a pencil to punch an array of tiny holes in the center. I find a square of 4x4 holes over just under a half-inch sqaure works well. Place this foil over the card-bowl. Line up the holes, and fold over the edges with the excess foil - try and get a good seal.

Now decorate your finished bong. Use anything at your disposal to personalise it.

When using the bong, dont have your lighter or match held on your ganj for long periods of time as you will melt the hot glue. Periodicaly (at the start of every session) replace the foil.

I prefer to use the open mouth of the bottle as a mouthpiece, although you can use everyday screw caps to make a range of interchangable fittings for your bong.
